Dependable Delivery Requires Proper Labelling

In order to deliver parcels safely and efficiently through the FOXPOST system, it is not only proper packaging that is important, but also where and how the labels are placed on the parcels.

Our new sorting line is significantly quicker and more efficient than manual sorting. However, to utilise the full capacity and benefits this new line offers, it is important to note the following:

Parcel labels are crucial, as they are used by the system to identify the individual parcels. The correct placement of labels helps the system process the parcels more quickly. With correct labelling, your parcel will arrive sooner. Here are some tips on how to attach labels correctly:

  • Parcels should be labelled on their largest surface, in a clearly visible area, as the parcels pass through the sorting line lying flat.
  • Do NOT put the label on the shorter side of the parcels, as those are not visible to the scanner; such parcels need to be sorted manually, increasing handling time.
  • The label must be clearly legible, free from creases and tearing.
  • Do not put over the barcode of the label sellotape or any kind of adhesive tape, as the reflective surface of the tape will reflect the scanner’s laser beams. And this may slow down the handling and delivery time of the parcel.
  • Remove old labels and markings from previous shipments, or at least make them illegible.

Examples of what NOT to do:

Wrong: the label is attached to the shorter side of the parcel.

Wrong: the old label has been neither removed nor made illegible.

Wrong: the brown tape covers part of the parcel’s barcode, making it unreadable for the scanner, as the shiny surface of the tape reflects the scanner’s laser beam.

Wrong: the parcel’s label – and the entire barcode on it – is covered with sellotape, making it unreadable for the scanner, as the shiny surface of the tape reflects its laser beam.

Good examples:

The label is free of creases and tears, and is attached to an easily visible area on the largest surface of the parcel. The barcode on the label is not taped over, so the scanner can easily read it. The old label and/or any markings of earlier deliveries have been removed or made illegible.
